FAUST
– a tragedy by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832) – is one of the most important works of German literature.
No longer young, but respected scientist, researcher and professor, respected scholar Doctor Faust is dissatisfied with his fate. Throughout his life he has read thousands of books, explored nature and even explored the spirit world to understand the meaning of life, but is lonely and unable to enjoy life to its fullest. Unhappy, he tries to kill himself with poison.
God, who believes in the good in Faust, enters into a bet with the devil Mephistopheles. The two want to find out which path Faust ultimately takes – that of good or that of evil. Devil Mephisto uses all his magic and seduction skills, offers Faust money, travel, and a rejuvenation treatment. Faust accepts his offer. He becomes young and charming again and begins to enjoy life, experiences great love for Gretchen, a young girl, and is ready to die for it. Devil Mephisto should get his soul.
The “Faust” material goes back to a legend from the Middle Ages. Although written almost 200 years ago, it is a parable about modern people who know hardly any limits to their desires and thirst for knowledge.
